Professional

Following my graduation from Michigan State University's Deaf Education program, I completed my internship at Michigan School for the Deaf and Hill Elementary School in Davison, Michigan.  I then became a long-term substitute at MSD in a fifth-grade classroom.  When the 2011-2012 school year arrived, I became the American Sign Language teacher for the Genesee Intermediate School District and taught the course via GenNet.  GenNet is a live, two-way interactive system that allows students from around the county to have class together with the same instructor.  October of 2013 led me to Flint Community Schools as the new Deaf Education teacher at Southwestern Classical Academy.  There I worked with eight students (middle school and high school) of various hearing abilities and taught all core subjects.  American Sign Language is an amazing language and I love watching my students develop their skills while also expressing myself in such a visual format.

Personal

I am a family-centered person and absolutely love spending time with my parents, five sisters, nephew and boyfriend.  My boyfriend and I have been together for two years and we love trying new adventures.  We have recently traveled to Tenesee, Niagra Falls and New York.  Winter leads us to activities such as cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and sledding.  When spring comes we will most likely be found out on the water in kayaks, a canoe or the boat.

I love to take photographs and create scrapbooks of the fun moments in my life.  I am an active participant in Relay for Life and encourage my students to join.  You can follow the link below to a video performance done by myself and some of my students at a past Relay for Life event.

With a yellow lab and two gray cats the house is never quiet!  However, growing up with five sisters meant that the house was never quiet either.  I live my life through chaos, excitement and a sense of adventure.  My classroom style is similar; I love hands-on projects, becoming involved with the community and learning through active participation.
