TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners

Spring 2013

This analysis involved a case study of a Deaf child of our choosing. I explored the child's home life, past situations and test performance.  I tested the child using various literacy assessments and used the collected data to create two subsequent lesson plans.  The lesson plans were taught follow-up reflection and materials are included.

CEP 841: The Nature and Design of Compelling Experiences

Spring 2014

The concept of this project was to utilize dramatic speaking to gain audience attention and appeal.  I went with the approach of signing the joke to show the importance of facial expressions and role shifting within American Sign Language.

The joke that I am signing is "2 men went out into the woods hunting.  As they were walking, one of them passed out.  His friend frantically called 911.  "Help!  I think my friend is dead" he said.  The 911 operator responds "Ok, first we need to make sure he is dead."  The line goes silent and the 911 operator hears a gunshot.  The friend comes back on the line, "I made sure he is dead.  Now what?"

Compare that reading of the joke to the dratization of the ASL version.  See why I am so in love with the language?
